The Wolfhound is a lightweight insulated jacket with hood, designed for anyone who needs compressible warmth in outdoor, hunting or operational contexts. The 67 g/m² Climashield® Apex™ synthetic insulation delivers a high warmth-to-weight ratio and, unlike down, retains its thermal properties when wet — a real advantage when the weather can't be relied upon.
The WindPack® nylon outer shell blocks wind and offers light-rain water repellency, but this is not a waterproof garment: sustained rain will eventually penetrate. The trade-off is deliberate: dropping a waterproof membrane allows the jacket to pack down into a compact stuff sack for carrying in a rucksack, while the VersaStretch® side panels provide freedom of movement under the arms and at the cuffs without generating friction against base layers. Used as a mid-layer over a waterproof softshell, it gets the best out of both solutions.
The pocket layout balances access and retention: the chest pocket and the two fleece-lined hand-warmer pockets are quick to reach, while the internal zip pocket is intended for items that need to stay put. The adjustable hood — via elastic hem and a drawcord at the lower hem — lets you tune the fit for layering, wearing the jacket over a thermal layer without losing the silhouette. The Velcro panel on the sleeve is ready for patches or identification panels.
Key points
- Climashield® Apex™ insulation at 67 g/m² retains warmth when wet, unlike natural down which collapses with moisture.
- The WindPack® shell blocks wind and resists light rain but is not waterproof: works best as a mid-layer under an outer shell.
- VersaStretch® panels under the arms and at the cuffs remove friction points that build up when moving with an optic or a rucksack on your back.
- The packability into its own stuff sack means it can ride in the rucksack without eating into usable volume during warmer hours.
- Fleece-lined hand-warmer pockets add comfort during long static periods in cold conditions without adding bulk to the construction.
- The Velcro panel on the sleeve allows patches or identification panels to be applied without additional stitching.
