The Fostex Combat Fleece Jacket is a technical fleece designed for outdoor and professional use in moderately cold conditions. Built from 100% polyester fleece with ripstop reinforcements in 65% polyester and 35% cotton on the arms, shoulders and back, it combines thermal insulation and low weight in a garment suited to those who spend long hours stationary in a hide or moving across demanding terrain.

The fleece offers good passive breathability and retains warmth even when damp, but it is neither waterproof nor windproof: it works best as a mid-layer under a softshell, or worn alone in dry conditions with limited wind. The mesh lining on the upper back helps wick moisture away from the body, reducing sweat build-up during periods of movement. The fit is generous: the manufacturer recommends sizing up from your usual size, which is worth bearing in mind when wearing base layers or a tactical vest underneath.

The side sleeve pockets remain accessible even when wearing a vest or chest rig that would normally cover the front pockets. The Velcro-adjustable cuffs and the main YKK zip, covered internally by a ripstop storm flap, help minimise heat loss. The sleeve pockets also feature Velcro panels for patches or identification markers. The underarm zip with mesh venting is the primary active airflow system: useful during high-output phases, but best understood as active ventilation rather than a structural substitute for the fabric's limited breathability.
