Combat shirt Helikon-Tex MCDU NyCo Ripstop

The Helikon-Tex MCDU is a long-sleeve combat shirt designed for those wearing a ballistic vest, a plate carrier, or a chest rig in hot conditions and high-output activity. The torso is made from TopCool 100% polyester fabric that manages moisture against the skin, while the sleeves and raised collar are cut in NyCo (50% cotton, 50% nylon) to provide the mechanical durability needed where the vest contacts the shirt most.

The choice of two different fabrics is deliberate: the breathable torso dissipates heat where the vest traps warm air, but it cannot handle the abrasion from straps and hard edges. That is why the sleeves switch to NyCo Ripstop, which holds up to wear and dries quickly enough not to weigh the arm down during use. The trade-off worth knowing: NyCo will always take a few minutes longer to dry than a fully synthetic fabric, but it feels more natural against the skin and holds colour and high-wash temperatures better.

The two zip pockets on the biceps fit a folded document, a map, or a small GPS unit without adding bulk that would interfere with vest straps. The two loop panels on the shoulders allow identification or nationality patches to be attached with hook-and-loop fasteners, no sewing or piercing the fabric required.
