The thermal core is Travelsoft polyester insulation: it retains its heat-trapping properties even after compression in the stuff sack, without the uneven lofting issues found in some lower-quality synthetic fills. The 100% polyester Micro Diamond outer fabric is windproof and water-resistant, shedding surface moisture and wind without adding weight; the Paratex inner fabric inhibits bacterial growth and reduces odours during extended bivouacs.

The trade-off to consider is the one inherent to any blanket: compared to a sleeping bag it offers far greater versatility — it can be wrapped around the body, used as an extra layer over an existing sleeping bag, or as a tarp — but it does not seal heat around the body the way a zipped bag does.
