Carinthia Defence 4 Sleeping Bag

The Defence 4 is a three-season sleeping bag designed for those who operate or move in cold and demanding environments. With a comfort temperature of −8.8 °C, a lower limit of −16.1 °C and a declared extreme of −36.6 °C, it covers a thermal range from autumn nights to high-altitude winter bivouacs, making it suitable for both professional use and extended outdoor activity.

Insulation is G-LOFT Duro, a bi-component synthetic fibre whose three-dimensional structure traps air in a manner similar to goose down, while retaining thermal performance even when wet. The outer shell in 145 g/m² microfibre nylon with a microporous polyurethane coating is waterproof and abrasion-resistant without sacrificing breathability; the inner lining in 145 g/m² polyamide (Shelltrans) is soft against the skin. The two-layer construction without through-stitching creates an air cushion between the insulation and the shell, improving thermal efficiency and reducing the heat-loss points typical of sewn-through seams.

The two-way zip is protected on the inside by a generous draught tube and on the outside by a wind flap that blocks wind and moisture. The differential cut — the inner lining is cut larger than the outer shell — prevents the insulation from being compressed under fabric tension, keeping the loft even throughout. The trapezoidal footbox provides adequate volume without leaving air pockets that bleed heat. The Defence 4 is compatible with the Carinthia modular system (can be combined with the Tropen bag to extend thermal protection downward). A compression stuff sack is included.
