The integrated snap mechanism retains the magazine with a firm hold while releasing cleanly on a straight upward draw — one-handed extraction stays fast and requires no lateral retention lever to disengage. The trade-off to keep in mind is that snap retention is directional: it works well on the vertical axis, but the insert must sit in a pouch that holds it without lateral play, otherwise retention loses effectiveness. Compared to a pure bungee system, it provides more consistent retention regardless of magazine thickness, but it does require a correctly sized, compatible pouch.

The insert also allows partial magazines to be reinserted without difficulty: the magazine seats by pressing it in until it clicks, with no need to position a thumb on a tab or compress a bungee. This becomes relevant during tactical reloads, when recovering a partial magazine rather than dropping it. The grey colour is neutral and does not clash with the most common colours found on standard-issue pouches.
