The MBDU Shirt is a combat shirt in NyCo Ripstop fabric — a nylon-cotton blend with a crosshatch weave — designed for those who wear a uniform on duty or during extended training and cannot afford to trade mobility for durability. The anatomical cut with VersaStretch side panels follows shoulder and torso movement without pulling across the back, even when worn under a ballistic vest.
NyCo Ripstop absorbs less water than pure cotton and dries faster, but it is neither waterproof nor water-repellent: in heavy rain it will get wet, and this needs to be factored into layering plans. Its strength lies in abrasion resistance — the grid weave reinforces the fabric at tear points — and in the solid balance between low weight and durability in areas that contact harnesses and load-bearing equipment. The underarm mesh panels improve ventilation exactly where heat builds up when gear is worn, without adding bulk.
The collar can stay open like a standard military collar or be closed in the raised position using velcro, useful in cold or dusty conditions. The chest pockets close with YKK zips and are topped by loop panels for patches; the bicep pockets with zips include lanyard rings, and the loop panels on the sleeves accept flags or IFF patches. In this Flecktarn version, the rear shoulder area includes pockets for soft protective inserts — a detail that sets this colourway apart from some other variants in the MBDU line. The snap buttons on the secondary closures hold up better than standard buttons against accidental pulls during manoeuvres.
