Combat Shirt Helikon-Tex MCDU NyCo Ripstop

The Helikon-Tex MCDU Combat Shirt is a combat shirt designed for those who operate under a plate carrier or chest rig in hot conditions: the central body in 225 g/m² TopCool fabric moves body heat outward, while the sleeves, cuffs and collar in NyCo Ripstop (50% nylon / 50% cotton blend) withstand friction from the harness without giving way. Overall weight is around 450 g.

The construction trade-off Helikon-Tex has chosen is deliberate: the 100% polyester TopCool body wicks moisture outward more efficiently than cotton, but is less abrasion-resistant. The NyCo Ripstop sleeves reverse that priority: they sacrifice a degree of breathability where the fabric works against shoulder straps and harness webbing, gaining significantly greater durability in return. Anyone carrying kit for hours at a stretch will notice the difference at the cuffs and shoulders.

The front closure uses a YKK zip with a chin and beard guard at the top, allowing the shirt to be opened and closed quickly without having to pull the collar over your head. Each sleeve features a flat zip pocket sized for a GPS unit or a mid-sized smartphone, plus two velcro panels for identification or unit patches. Cuff adjustment is handled by velcro tabs, keeping the sleeve from riding up toward the elbow during movement.
