The Boonie Hat MK2 is Helikon-Tex's field hat, a direct evolution of the classic military «Aussie hat», made in mixed-weave ripstop fabric for those working outdoors in variable conditions. Weighing 124 g with a fabric weight of 220 g/m², it covers sizes S to XL with head circumferences from 55 to 61 cm.
The blend of 50% polyester, 48% cotton and 2% elastane reflects a deliberate trade-off: cotton provides a natural feel against the skin and wicks sweat at the point of contact, while polyester speeds up drying and holds the hat's shape even after hours of use in humid conditions. The elastane adds just enough give to keep the hat comfortable during extended wear without any uncomfortable pressure. The ripstop construction addresses durability: the grid weave arrests tears before they can spread — a real advantage when moving through dense vegetation or abrasive material.
An adjustable drawcord with a plastic stopper lets you secure the hat under the chin in windy conditions or during fast movement, keeping the brim where you want it. Lateral ventilation eyelets promote airflow around the crown, reducing heat build-up during the hottest parts of the day. Inside, a contrast-colour fabric panel can be worn facing out for emergency signalling — a simple solution that's always there without any added bulk. Two hook-and-loop velcro panels allow the attachment of ID or unit patches. A dedicated loop lets you clip the hat to the Helikon-Tex RAID blouse when not wearing it, so you won't lose it or have to stow it in your pack.
