The Gator Machete Jr is the compact version of Gerber's Gator Machete: a 273 mm high-carbon steel blade with an overall length of 476 mm and a weight of 405 g, designed for those who move off-trail and cannot afford unnecessary bulk in their pack.
The blade runs double-edged: on the smooth side, the sharpened edge cuts through shrubs, brambles and dense vegetation with precise, controlled strokes; on the opposite side, the coarse-tooth saw bites through branches and small trunks without the effort a conventional blade would demand. Having both functions in a single 476 mm tool is the trade-off that sets this machete apart from a traditional billhook: you gain versatility, but the saw is not a substitute for a dedicated saw on hardwood or timber thicker than a wrist.
The Gator Grip overmold handle maintains grip even with wet or sweat-soaked gloves, a common condition in humid and tropical environments where a machete sees longer, more intensive use. The included nylon sheath protects the blade during transport and clips to a belt, keeping the tool accessible without taking up space in the main pack.
Key points
- 273 mm high-carbon steel blade: holds an edge under hard use in dense undergrowth.
- Dual profile — smooth edge for vegetation, coarse saw for branches — removes the need to carry two separate tools.
- Overall length 476 mm, weight 405 g: more manageable and compact than the standard Gator Machete, without sacrificing toughness.
- Gator Grip overmold handle: keeps a secure grip with wet hands or light gloves.
- Included nylon sheath: protects the blade and allows belt carry, ready for use.
