BAOFENG UV-5R Dual Band VHF/UHF Radio — Black

The Baofeng UV-5R is a handheld dual band transceiver covering VHF (136–174 MHz) and UHF (400–520 MHz), with a 2-pin Kenwood connector for earpieces, tactical headsets and PTT accessories. It is used by airsoft players, amateur radio enthusiasts and anyone looking for an affordable, versatile radio for outdoor use. Operating on VHF and UHF outside licence-free frequencies requires a valid amateur radio licence or equivalent authorisation.

Output power is selectable between 5 W (high) and 1 W (low) on VHF, and between 4 W and 1 W on UHF. Low-power mode reduces range but extends battery life, which is useful during long sessions where recharging is not practical. The 128 channel memories allow you to store repeater frequencies, PMR channels, marine frequencies and any other frequency within the supported ranges; channel naming is available via PC programming.

The dual band display shows two frequencies simultaneously, and the Dual Watch function monitors them alternately so you do not miss traffic on a second channel while listening on the first. A selection of 50 CTCSS tones and 104 DCS codes allows you to filter communications and reduce interference on busy frequencies — common during airsoft events with multiple teams or wherever several groups share the same channel. The VOX function with 10 sensitivity levels frees your hands from having to press the PTT, but in noisy environments it may trigger unintentionally: in those cases an external PTT is preferable.
