The reduced profile is not purely aesthetic: a lower-mounted red dot encourages a more natural cheek weld and reduces the lever arm on the vertical plane during recoil, improving target reacquisition. The trade-off is that with a low-profile mount the clearance between the optic and the receiver decreases, which can make rail cleaning less convenient and requires checking compatibility with bulky forward accessories before installation.
